XMC, the Toronto-based sports marketing agency, has been named Canadian Agency of Record for the Detroit Lions. The appointment puts the independent shop in charge of community activations across Southwestern Ontario, game-day experiences, content creation, and partnership development designed to connect Canadian fans with the NFL franchise.
The relationship positions XMC as the bridge between the Lions and their substantial Ontario fanbase. Detroit's proximity to the Canadian border: Windsor sits directly across the river. This has historically made the Lions a draw for Canadian audiences. The agency's mandate covers activations in the region, alongside content and experiential work tied to game days.
XMC operates as a specialist in sports and entertainment marketing. The firm's client roster includes Tennis Canada, the Toronto Raptors, and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. The Lions assignment adds an NFL property to a book of business concentrated in hockey, basketball, and tennis.
The announcement came via the agency's LinkedIn page on May 15. No campaign work has been released yet. No financial terms were disclosed. The scope centers on building Canadian market presence for a team whose home stadium: Ford Field, sits 3.5 kilometers from the border.
The Lions made the playoffs in the 2023 season for the first time since 2016. Increased on-field performance typically correlates with expanded marketing investment. For XMC, the assignment represents a direct line into NFL marketing: a league that generated $18 billion in revenue in 2023.
The work begins as the Lions head into their 2026 season. What XMC produces in Southwestern Ontario will determine whether this AOR relationship expands or contracts.
