Family Business UK has appointed Soho Communications to lead its comms and PR, following a competitive pitch. FBUK is a UK organisation championing family businesses, from founder-led private companies to some of the country's largest multi-generational firms.

Soho will work directly with FBUK chief executive Neil Davy and his team. The brief: raise the profile of family businesses, champion their economic contribution, and support FBUK's advocacy on policy issues affecting family-owned companies.

The appointment follows Soho's work on the campaign against changes to Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief, where the agency represented a group of farmers and family businesses affected by the proposed inheritance tax rules. FBUK was at the forefront of that campaign. The effort helped persuade the Government to raise the threshold for the new rules from £1 million to £2.5 million, taking roughly a third of previously affected businesses out of scope.

Davy cited that track record directly. "We were impressed by Soho Communications' understanding of the issues facing family businesses and the effectiveness of their work representing businesses affected by the Government's proposed changes to Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief," he said. "We wanted an agency that understood how to turn those issues into compelling campaigns and communicate our case effectively to policymakers and the wider public. Soho has demonstrated that ability, and we are delighted to be working with James and the team."

No campaign name or creative product has been disclosed as part of this appointment.

The relationship centers on advocacy and policy communications rather than a single named campaign.
